Liz Granger joined the Metropolitan Planning Council in June 2017. Liz helps the MPC staff communicate their work and ideas.

Liz is a storyteller who specializes in building narrative from complex issues. Liz comes to urban planning from publishing and journalism. Most recently, she executed marketing, production and design for Lookout Books, a North Carolina-based small press, and Ecotone magazine, a literary environmental magazine. She’s worked at the Chicago Tribune and The Chicago Reporter. Her writing has been published in the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, Bitch and Refinery29.

Liz earned an M.F.A. in creative nonfiction from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She wrote a book manuscript about menstrual hygiene in Uganda, a topic she researched on a 2011 Fulbright scholarship and on a grant from her alma mater, Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

Liz grew up in Omaha, Neb. and currently lives in Chicago’s Tri-Taylor neighborhood. She’s always trying to bike, backpack, meditate, ferment, swim and picnic more often.
