Hugo Coronado
Hugo joined MPC in June 2022 as an Associate and now serves as a Manager. Originally from Colombia, he holds a college degree in political science and previously worked as a consultant in public policy for local companies and international organizations, focusing on policy analysis across different regions in Colombia.
Hugo moved to Chicago in 2018 to pursue a master’s degree in Sustainable Urban Development and a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at DePaul University. A former Chaddick Scholar, he contributed to research at the Chaddick Institute and actively participated in its events. After graduating in 2021, he joined the Shared-Use Mobility Center, where he conducted research on transportation and shared mobility.
At MPC, Hugo’s work spans transportation and water resource initiatives. His contributions include advising on a Transit Signal Priority study and Transit-Friendly Communities plan, supporting the City of Chicago’s Pedestrian and Safety Committee, and facilitating discussions on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). He also managed the transition of MPC’s Bike and Pedestrian database to the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and developed equity-focused project prioritization methodologies for the Reconnecting Communities Report.
In water resources, Hugo has led engagement for the StormStore program and its transition to a permanent market-based solution for green stormwater infrastructure. He coordinated the transition of the Calumet Stormwater Collaborative to the Greater Chicago Watershed Alliance and organized site visits to highlight stormwater management solutions in the region.
An outdoor enthusiast, Hugo enjoys long runs along Chicago’s lakefront and attending summer street festivals.
