Deb Spencer

Deb joined MPC in April 2013 as the Government and Community Relations Manager. She works with local governments and communities to improve and expand MPC’s programmatic involvement at the community level and across the region.

Prior to joining MPC, Deb worked extensively with the Illinois State legislature as a lobbyist on multi-modal transportation-related funding. Most recently she assisted with labor-related issues with the Indiana, Illinois, Iowa Foundation for Fair Contracting, the labor management side of the Operating Engineers, Local 150.

Previously, Deb spent five years working on contract with the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission in the Peoria region, her hometown. As a Governmental and Community Consultant, her initial duties included building a coalition and providing community outreach around a multi-million dollar regional road project, while also building relationships with IDOT, local, state and federal elected officials in order to secure appropriations. Later, her purview was expanded to include Illinois River issues, passenger rail expansion to the Peoria region as well as numerous other regional projects.

Deb has participated in and built relationships on numerous transportation-related committees throughout the state, previously sitting on the Transportation for Illinois Coalition, State House Affairs Committee. Her interests have focused on how to pay for capital projects and job creation.

Deb resides in Lincoln Park with her younger son, Bailey. Her older son, Max, swims for West Virginia University.
