Annual Event: Honor The Heritage, Embrace The Future

Watch the recording of the virtual event here

Since its founding in 1934, the Metropolitan Planning Council has worked to transform the Chicagoland area into a strong, equitable, and resilient region. With every project, MPC has shaped the narrative and rejected the status quo to ensure that the region reaches its full potential. From projects like researching the regional costs of segregation to bolstering the first citywide planning effort in over 50 years, MPC continues to make its mark at the forefront of regional innovation, ultimately improving the lives of all residents.

During our 2022 Annual Event on September 21, 2022, we honored Dr. Helene Gayle and the Chicago Community Trust (CCT) with the MPC 2022 Champion Fighter Award. Through Dr. Gayle’s leadership, CCT has committed to closing the racial wealth gap in Chicago.

Like CCT, MPC believes addressing this racial and ethnic wealth division also addresses other issues that plague our city like violence, homelessness, food insecurity, the education gap, and other societal challenges. Both MPC and CCT are committed to breaking these barriers and bringing this work to the forefront. We are honored to celebrate Dr. Gayle and CCT and join them in the fight to make Chicago a better, bolder and more equitable place for everyone.

Thank you for joining us on Wednesday, September 21 to embrace this moment and our shared hope for a stronger region.

The virtual celebration was a free and live program that aired at the same time as the in-person event.

The in-person event took place at Morgan Manufacturing (401 N. Morgan) from 5-7 p.m. (CT).
