Burnham Award Celebration: Austin Coming Together
Please join the Metropolitan Planning Council and Austin Coming Together (ACT) in celebrating Austin’s Quality-of-Life Plan! ACT was honored with the 2019 Burnham Award for Excellence in Planning for their role in facilitating the community’s Quality-of-Life Plan known as Austin Forward Together, a set of comprehensive strategies for a neighborhood renaissance.
Despite being Chicago’s second largest population and largest geographic area, the Austin community has struggled with a lack of investment and support. In 2010, a small group of community leaders recognized a need to harness the collective power from within the community to address issues and better coordinate efforts for systemic change in Austin. With this foundation, ACT was formed to be an advocate for unity, commitment, transparency, collaboration, and action. Today, ACT is the backbone agency for a network of 50+ agencies all dedicated to leveraging collective impact to achieve a unified vision for a thriving Austin.
Over 400 residents and community stakeholders were gathered to specifically discuss how Austin can best move forward together. All that hard work culminated in a Quality-of-Life Plan created and owned by the Austin community.
