M. Hill Hammock

Hill Hammock is a Senior Fellow with the Metropolitan Planning Council. He retired as Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of LaSalle Bank in 2007. Before LaSalle’s acquisition by Bank of America, it was the 14th largest bank in the United States with assets of $140 billion. He then became Chief Administrative Officer for the Chicago Public Schools, the third largest school district in the United States where he worked directly for Arne Duncan, now Secretary of Education.

Hill continues his business involvements as Chairman of Chicago Deferred Exchange Company and Board member of Taylor Capital Group and Verit Advisors. He has had a long and active involvement in the civic organizations of Chicago having served on a number of nonprofit Boards. He has served as Chairman of the Metropolitan Planning Council, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Chicago History Museum, and Leadership Greater Chicago. Hill is a member of the University of Chicago Visiting Committee for the Harris School of Public Policy and a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago. He now serves as Co-Chair of the Chicago Sunday Evening Club and Board member of The Civic Federation and The Better Government Association.

He and his wife, Cheryl, have been members of a Chicago inner city Baptist church for 44 years. Cheryl is recent past Chair of The Seminary Consortium for Urban Pastoral Education in Chicago.
