Are you looking for ways to engage residents in the planning and development of a park or garden?
The Metropolitan Planning Council is accepting applications for a Placemaking Chicago Technical Assistance project, and is focusing on a park or garden in the city of Chicago.
Placemaking Chicago creates and enhances public spaces around the region by tapping into the innate knowledge residents have about their neighborhoods. Through direct outreach with residents and community organizations, close collaboration with public agencies and elected officials, and an active social media and online presence, Placemaking Chicago helps residents and government employees work together toward their common goal of quality public spaces that benefit residents, neighborhoods, and the region.
How does Placemaking Chicago Technical Assistance work?
MPC will provide direct, hands-on technical assistance to two communities in the region interested in long-term partnerships to implement placemaking strategies in public spaces. This technical assistance will involve co-hosting community meetings or open houses, creating online networking groups, and surveying residents to establish a vision for the public space; providing advice on implementing short and long term visions; identifying partners throughout the neighborhood and city to help implement these goals; helping to establish a final vision to guide the development of the public space; and promoting the project’s progress through the Placemaking Chicago web site.
In its first technical assistance project at the Polish Triangle, at Milwaukee Avenue, Division Street, and Ashland Avenue in Wicker Park, MPC engaged more than 700 residents. Click here to learn more about the Polish Triangle project.
